RESILAO showcases seven innovative initiatives for coastal resilience in West Africa at FOMACO 2026

At the 12th edition of the Regional Coastal and Marine Forum (FOMACO), the RESILAO programme presented the projects selected under its second call for projects. Ranging from mangrove restoration and the valorisation of local knowledge to climate adaptation and the blue economy, the selected initiatives demonstrate the diversity of solutions developed by West African actors in response to the environmental and social challenges facing the coastline.

Implemented by the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of the Coastal and Marine Zone of West Africa (PRCM) to strengthen the resilience of coastal ecosystems and vulnerable communities in West Africa, the RESILAO programme supports innovative local initiatives to build the resilience of ecosystems and communities in the face of the rapid changes affecting the West African coastal zone.

Following a first call for projects successfully launched in 2023, RESILAO opened a second call on 16 April 2025 to support new high-impact initiatives. At the close of this call, 77 applications were received. After a lengthy evaluation process conducted by the selection committee, seven projects were ultimately selected.

Within the framework of FOMACO 2026, RESILAO dedicated a side event to showcasing these projects and providing an immersive presentation of the programme’s web platform. Organised around the theme of highlighting the initiatives from the second call for projects, this session provided a space for regional dialogue on innovative approaches to coastal resilience developed in West Africa.

The session closed with a presentation of the RESILAO web platform, designed as a regional space for visibility, knowledge sharing and capitalisation of the experiences developed within the programme. Through this initiative, RESILAO confirms its commitment to strengthening regional cooperation dynamics and supporting concrete local solutions to address the growing challenges threatening West African coastal zones.
